Flow Triptych

I was commissioned to create three paintings inspired by nature surrounding the Northwestern city of Seattle. Each piece reflects a different aspect of Washington state, from the ocean to the shorelines to the forests.

The first few days were spent collecting inspiration in the lush surrounding nature, from algae, waves and barnacles on the beautiful islands and coastlines, to bark, moss and lichen in the dense forests.

The final three designs are all tied visually by the ways in which nature creates a flowing motion across surfaces: The first was inspired by the overlapping bark of a tree, the second by driftwood and the third by the marks water leaves on sand when it retreats back into the ocean.
