Architectural Details of Bilbao
In November I went on a getaway to the largest city of the Basque Country: Bilbao. Much like its Spanish counterparts, this city is basking (…!) in magnificent historical and contemporary architecture, with lots of its beauty laying in the details.
The doors of Bilbao are also worthy of a mention of their own with their wide array of personalities, from intricately carved wood, to ornamental metallic gates to bright colorful façades.
Typographic signage was another big part of the visual landscape around town, especially this one style of lettering that appeared just about everywhere (shown here in the second picture). After a bit of online research, we found out it’s a traditional Basque form of lettering based on stone engravings from the region’s past, which has since been turned into a typeface (Harri Display).
